I've been absent the last few weeks because I haven't had much to say. I haven't gotten around to interviewing any more animals, though I'd like to get back to that before long. The fun, new news is that I've got another book out!
Finn's a failure, at necromancy and life in general. "It's not my fault," he'd insist, looking deep into your eyes as he lifts your wallet. You'd catch him, of course. Because he's a failure.Veruca, on the other hand, is competence personified. She has to be, working as a Reaper directly for the Prince of Hell. When Finn shows up in a stolen sport coat and uses Veruca as cover from his murderous mistress' glowering goons, she finds the one thing she may not be so good at: resisting Finn's handsome face.
Rattle is a fun, silly, romantic romp through another side of the Preternatural Pacrific Northwest. While world-building for Gwen's books, I came up with a load of background canon in terms of how things function, what goes on behind the scenes, and how magic works. It became too much to cram into any part of Gwen's series, so I started creating other characters to flesh out those ideas. Finn and Veruca tackle a side of the PPNW that I've only barely touched on with Gwen.
Veruca and Finn possess soul magic in the most direct way possible: Veruca's a Reaper, collecting promised souls for the Prince of Hell, and Finn's a necromancer who usually just ends up collecting a lot of wounds across his body because he's not so good at what he does. I think anyone who liked Mixed Feelings will like Rattle, and anyone who just likes a few laughs alongside their romance will like it too!
