Halloween is NEXT WEEK! One of my most ridiculous* wishes is to host a really fun halloween party with cute favors and hanging bats, and spooky hors d'oeuvres. Speaking of, isn't it nuts that we just USE this incredibly obvious French word all willy nilly? I know English is generally just a mishmash of all sorts of words that we've just adopted, but we haven't even made it "orderves" or anything. We've just kept the French spelling like, "ah, the hell with it. We can eat it, we don't need to spell it."
I digress.
Back to Halloween. I really hampered myself this year by deciding to challenge my willpower and go sugar-free for the month of October. Usually this month I bake everything pumpkin, make my own pumpkin spice coffee syrup, eat lots of tasty, autumn crap, and feel that's the best way to get into the spirit of Halloween since throwing a party doesn't seem within my grasp. I have a varied group of friends who don't know each other and who all work such different schedules that making a party happen seems like it would never work. I can fantasize, though!
In the meantime, I usually settle for watching "scary" movies and enjoying all the cute decorations that have cropped up everywhere. I don't like most gory movies, and I'm too impatient for a lot of older "scary" movies, so it's hard to find a lot of stuff that really works for me in terms of spookiness. I DO like zombie movies, though, despite my intolerance of gore. Something about zombie movie gore just seems so unreal to me, maybe.
My favorite October go-to for movies has to be the remake of Dawn of the Dead! It's got a decent amount of action, it's funny, and you get to look at Jake Weber for 90 minutes. Such a deal! I've tried watching the original and it's way too slow and boring for me.
Side note, I've met George Romero and he's SO SO SO nice and really tall! So, I do feel bad not being a fan of his zombie movies, but I'm a fan of him as a person, so that's something!
Now onto what you're REALLY here for: the giveaway!
*My wish is ridiculous because it's not like a real wish. I could totally throw a halloween party, it would just be so logistically complicated that I pretend it's a far off, impossibility and just collect stuff on a Pinterest board instead.
